“Working with King’s does inspire you to be better, particularly as there’s a lot of research going on within the Trust. If you’re working in an environment where you’re constantly trying to look for ways to improve practice, that drives you to base your practice on evidence and continue to provide the best care for patients.”

I wouldn’t pick a specific colleague to thank. I would say thank you to all of my colleagues because our hard work and determination has shown through these couple of months and we work as a team as well. So I feel like everyone has contributed to the work that we’re doing, so I would like to thank all my colleagues.

King’s is great in terms of they’re really looking after the staff and their wellbeing. And it is not just about being professional, to know your things, and being a great nurse, but they’re actually looking after the wellbeing for the staff. They’re looking after in an education aspect as well to support you. And I think working in different hospitals, which were great, I really feel like at home, and I live in Southeast London, so it is very close to me. But at the same time, this is the first hospital that I feel really at home because I feel like we are kind of like a big family in a way. So, I would definitely encourage that if anybody’s looking to work here.

I think the thing that stands out about King’s is the teamwork and the support that we give to each other, and I think that makes King’s stand out from the rest.

King’s is fantastic. It’s got a real family feel even though it’s quite a big hospital. I’ve worked here since 2005 on various different wards and in various different departments, and I love every minute. I think lots of people that do actually look for a different job and leave, always come back to King’s because it’s got such a great family feel.

I was an internationally trained nurse, I trained in Ireland. And from the moment I came here, I was welcomed and I’ve received top class training. I came as a band five and I’ve recently got a matrons post. So I’ve been able to progress through. I know it’s quite hard in other hospitals, but here if they see your worth and they see how good you are, they’ll grow you and they’ll help you get to where you want to be. I didn’t see myself being a matron eight years ago, I thought I was like, oh, I’ll come to Kings for a year, I’ll go to Australia or whatever. And I’m hooked. I love it here and I don’t see myself working in a different hospital. I just love being here.

“I’ve been with King’s for 25 years. I did my placement here as a student nurse and then developed as a ward manager. King’s is my second home and I’m proud of the amount of different people working here from all nationalities and cultures. We all learn from each other and respect each other. Being in this location in London, we care for patients from different backgrounds and I’ve also learned a lot from that. It’s helped me grow as a nurse.”
